Naugatuck – Elizabeth (Betty) Christensen, 81, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2014 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury.

Betty was born on January 22, 1932 in Waterbury, the daughter of the late Milton and Katherine (Foley) Christensen. She worked for the footwear division of Uniroyal for over 30 years and was retired from Sperry Automatic in Naugatuck. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Vincent Ferrer Church of Naugatuck and was a member of the Ladies Guild.

Betty is survived by her sister, Mary C. Leary of Naugatuck. She is also survived by her three nieces, Coleen Pazzani and her husband Martin, of Farmington, Kathleen Bordonaro and her husband Michael, of Rocky Hill, and Eileen Garvey and her husband Brian, of Franklin, Ma., and her two nephews, Thomas Leary and his wife Pamela and Michael Leary, both of Naugatuck. She will also be missed by her nine great-nieces/nephews and her four great-great-nieces/nephews

The funeral will be held on Monday, January 13, 2014, at St. Vincent Ferrer Church, 1006 New Haven Road (Route 63), Naugatuck at 11:00 a.m. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will be at St. James cemetery in Naugatuck, at a later date. There are no calling hours. The Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck, is in charge of her arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to OR/TV, who broadcasts the daily mass, located at 15 Peach Orchard Road, Prospect, Ct. 06712, or St. Vincent Ferrer Church.

PROSPECT — Frank M. Santoro, 89, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Carmella (Rio) Santoro.

Mr. Santoro was born on Oct. 16, 1924 in Waterbury, a son of the late Elia Santoro and Loretta (Draicchio) Santoro. He was retired from John Hancock Insurance Co., where he worked as an insurance agent for many years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, having served in World War II with the 8th Fighter Command.

He enjoyed fishing, bowling and golfing.

Besides his wife, Carmella, he is survived by two daughters, Susan Guarino and her husband Joseph, of Naugatuck and Sandra Vollono and her husband Frederick, of Essex; and one son, Paul Santoro and his wife Elizabeth, of Bristol.

He will also be missed by his four grandchildren, Matthew, Michael and Alex Vollono and Adam Guarino; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one son, Frank Santoro Jr.; three sisters, Verna Augelli, Raphalina Rogers and Virginia Congero; and two brothers, Michael and Leonard Santoro.

The funeral will be held on Friday, Jan. 17, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. from the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 26 Waterbury Road, Route 69, Prospect to St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church, 4 Union City Road, Prospect, for a Mass at 11 a.m. Burial with full military honors will be in Prospect Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday evening from 5 to 8 p.m.

“Beloved Wife, Mother, and Grandmother”

PROSPECT – Mary F. (Bentley) Mosley, 87, passed away on Friday, January 17, 2014, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late John F. Mosley.

Mary was born in Easton , CT , on June 27, 1926, and was the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin Bentley and Frances Smith Bentley. She was retired from Samarius Industries where she worked as a plant manager for many years.

Mary grew up in Huntington , CT residing with her great-grandparents Sarah and Charles Smith. Mary met her husband, Jack during World War II while he was serving in Germany with her Uncle Art. They spent 67 years of bickering martial bliss together. She enjoyed traveling to Jack’s birth place of Bar Harbor , ME , California to visit her sister and family, and then after retirement to St. Petersburg , Florida . Mary enjoyed tag sales, consignment shops, and anything that was a great bargain.

Mary always adopted strays which included animals and her two adopted daughters, Shirley and Janet whom held a special place in her heart.

Mary was very active in the Prospect Senior Center she was actually the instigator of a petition to build a larger senior center from the chapel to the building which now the seniors are now currently occupying.

Mary is survived by one daughter, Roberta Kulas and her husband Jim of Seymour; three sons, Jon Mosley of Jupiter, Fla., James and Kevin Mosley, both of Oxford; She will also be missed by her five grandchildren, Sean and Steffany Mosley, Melissa Mosley and her husband Scot, Jessica and Kerry Hall, James and David Mosley, eight great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson who is on the way, as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her two sisters, Jean Beam and Doris Bentley.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 26 Waterbury Rd, Rte. 69, Prospect on Monday, January 20, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be held at a later date. There are no calling hours.

Mary Jane Boisvert, nee Fitzpatrick, passed away on January 18, 2014 surrounded by her family in a room filled with love.

Jane was born on April 6, 1922 in Waterbury the daughter of the late Charles J. Fitzpatrick and Mary Agnes (O’Connell) Fitzpatrick.

Jane is survived by her children: Bill Gilmartin and his wife Barb, Carol Ranaudo and her husband Billy, C.J. Box, Tom Boisvert and his wife Rosie, Stephen Boisvert, Susan Sherman and her husband Chuck as well as her 16 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. at the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave, Naugatuck. Calling hours will also be held on Thursday from 4-6 p.m.

Naugatuck-Carrie C. Wilcox, 30, passed away suddenly on Friday, January 17, 2014.

Carrie was born on October 28, 1983 in Waterbury a daughter of the late Thomas Wilcox and the late Debbie (Ruccio) Wilcox. She worked as a Police Dispatcher with the Naugatuck Police Department.She is survived by her two sisters, Kelly Mento of Naugatuck and Shannon L. Wilcox and her fiancé Bill Cook of Bristol, her paternal grandmother, Carolyn Wilcox, and her maternal grandmother, Patricia Dunn. She will also be deeply missed by her special niece, Madison as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins and all her friends, who were like family, at the Naugatuck Police Department.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church Street, Naugatuck. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church. Cheshire-Frances (Burke) Jackson of 150 Cook Hill Rd, passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2014. She was the wife of the late Dale L. Jackson with whom she lived with in Prospect for many years before moving to Elim Park in Cheshire in 2002.

She was born on August 17, 1922 in Naugatuck, daughter of the late Hilda Bodine Burke of Naugatuck. She graduated from Salem School and Naugatuck High School class of 1940 and attended Post Jr. College in Waterbury. She worked in the office at Bristol Babcock, Inc and US Rubber office for 3 years. She worked at Uniroyal Chemical in the control lab and electron microscope lab for 20 years. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for 20 years, volunteered with local groups in Waterbury, Middlebury, Naugatuck and Prospect, including the Women’s Club and worked with the J.C’s Shooting Team as an instructor for 10 years, was a member of the Prospect Gun Club and was involved with many activities at Elim Park. She enjoyed golfing with Dale.

She is survived by her son, John D. Thomson of Waterbury, her former daughter in law, Kathleen R. Vanasse and her husband Richard of Greenwood, S. C., one granddaughter, Heather Lynn Thomson of Greensboro, N.C. She will also be missed by her long time friend, Grace H. Stone as well as many friends.

The family would like to give special thanks to Brenda Mandaba and Waterbury Hospice, for the special care given to Frances.

Funeral services and burial will be private. There are no calling hours and the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 26 Waterbury Rd, Rte. 69, Prospect has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Waterbury-Dolande B. (Beaulieu) Kennedy, 78, passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at St. Mary’s Hospital surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Roger Kennedy.

Mrs. Kennedy was born on July 29, 1935 in Baker Lac, New Brunswick, Canada, daughter of the late Sylvio Beaulieu and Beatrice (Nadeau) Beaulieu. She was retired from Risdon where she worked for many years. She was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne and was a volunteer of the Sister Yvonne Workshop. Dolly was known for her love of cooking, gardening, and working hard, but most of all for always taking care of her family and for her unconditional love.

She will be incredibly missed by three daughters, Susan Collins and her husband Pierre of Waterbury, Denise Walker and her husband Jeff of Harwinton and Diane Eichman and her husband Frank of Thomaston, and by one sister, Doris Ouellette of Plantsville. She was a wonderful grandmother to her five grandchildren, Matthew Collins and his wife Jennifer, Jeffrey Collins and his wife Alyssa, Jason St. John and his wife Kate, Danielle Eichman and her fiancé Justin, and Chad Eichman, and adored her three great grandchildren, Matthew Collins Jr., Gia Collins, and Jeffrey Collins Jr. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and her beloved cat Tinou.

She was predeceased by four sisters, Antoinette Pelletier, Eglantine Pelletier, Georgette Kennedy and Charlotte Pelletier, and by five brothers, Bertin Morin, Joachim Morin, Berthier Beaulieu, Bernard Beaulieu, and, Benoit Beaulieu.

The funeral will be held on Monday, January 27, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at The Shrine of St. Anne, 515 South Main Street, Waterbury. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 26 Waterbury Rd, Rte. 69, Prospect on Sunday afternoon from 3-5 p.m.

NEW MILFORD — Jeffrey T. Yancoskie, 45, passed away on Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, at Saint Mary’s Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Yancoskie was born on Sept. 14, 1968, in Derby, a son of Jerome Yancoskie and Sandra Schramm. A 1986 graduate of Naugatuck High School, he was a sales associate for Danbury Auto Park. He enjoyed playing darts and following all the New York sports teams: Knicks, Giants and Yankees; but mostly, he enjoyed the company of his good friends.

Besides his parents, Jeffrey is survived by his two sons, Taylor and Sean Yancoskie, and his daughter, Alexis Yancoskie, and their mother, Jill. He is also survived by his sister, Stephanie Yancoskie, and her boyfriend, Jason Cook; and his brother, Gregory Yancoskie, and his wife, Viviane, and their children, Nicholas and Noah.

Jeffrey’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Saint Mary’s Hospital, Xavier 3, and all of his friends for their unconditional and unending support.

Naugatuck-Henry J. Cabral, 82, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2014 at St. Mary’s Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Janet (Stankiewicz) Cabral.

Mr. Cabral was born on August 25, 1931 in Waterbury a son of the late Joseph T. Cabral and Florence (Marino) Cabral. He was retired from Kimberly-Clark where he worked for many years. He was a veteran of the US Army and was an avid Red Sox and UCONN Women’s basketball fan.
Besides his wife of 57 years, Janet he is also survived by one daughter, Shirley Drost of Waterbury, two sons, Michael Cabral of Naugatuck and Stephen and Anne Cabral of Charlton, NY, one sister, Dolores Painter of Prospect, three brothers and their wives, Lawrence and Rosalynn Cabral, Joseph and Joan Cabral and Ronald Cabral. He will also be missed by six grandchildren, Tim and his wife Melissa Harris, Robert Harris, Matthew Drost, Emmali, Zachary, and Jacqueline Cabral three great grandchildren, Josselynn, Dannessa and Mackenzee Harris as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother Brian and sister Shirley Cabral.

The funeral will be held on Friday, January 31, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. from the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 26 Waterbury Rd, Rte. 69, Prospect to St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church for a mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial with full military honors will be in St. James Cemetery. Waterbury-Maura K. (Kerwin) Cortese, 63, passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at Gaylord Hospital in Wallingford surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Anthony Cortese.

Mrs. Cortese was born on April 29, 1950 in Brooklyn, NY a daughter of the late James Kerwin and Mary (Garrity) Kerwin. Affectionately known as “Baker” by her cottage Maura was retired from Southbury Training School where she worked for many years. Maura could walk for days along a beach enjoying the story behind a seashell the beauty of a lighthouse, and the tranquility of the ocean.

She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Cortese of Waterbury, and Christina Woodley and her husband John of Waterbury, her life partner of 25 years, James Dellorfano of Terryville, her sister, Joan Tambling of Waterbury. She will also be missed by her grandchildren, Jessica and Jamie Edwards, and Jeffrey Windischman, as well as her great-granddaughter, Ella Bella.

She was predeceased by two brothers, James and Kevin Kerwin.

Although Maura’s passing was untimely her presence will continue in all who remember her.

A memorial mass will be held on Friday, January 31, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church, 625 Baldwin Street, Waterbury. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church. Harwinton – Frederick W. Klies, 55, passed away on Monday, February 3, 2014 at New Milford Hospital, due to injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident June 28, 2007. Mr. Klies was born on May 19, 1958 in Waterbury, a son of the late Herman and Eva (Bernick) Klies. He was the owner and operator of Eastern Cycle Performance of Waterbury and a member of The Martial Arts Hall of Fame. Frederick is survived by his two sons, Frederick Jr. and Eric Klies, and their mother, Joan Buonocore. He is also survived by his sisters, Edinna Klies Cross and her husband Ralph, Jacqueline Klies, and Heidi Klies, and his four nephews, Ralph H. Cross, James R. Cross, Jason Goldberg, and Chris Goldberg as well as his great nephews, Aaron Goldberg and Sean Welch. Frederick’s family would like to thank Barbie Howland Morton and Barbara Cole, his wonderful healthcare providers, and the staff at New Milford Hospital and Hospice, for their outstanding care and support. Danbury-Herminda “Minda” L. (Lamas) Scally, 97, formerly of Naugatuck passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Filosa Nursing and Rehab surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife the late Thomas M. Scally. Minda was born on April 6, 1916 in Eiravedra, Spain, a daughter of the late Manuel and Mary Lamas. She was retired from Uniroyal Inc. where she worked as a Nurse for over 40 years. She was a member of the Naugatuck Historical Society and an honorary member of the Women’s Club of Naugatuck. She is survived by one daughter, Sandra Barnes and her husband David of Katonah, NY, and one son, Thomas Scally of NYC. She will be greatly missed by five grandchildren; Rebecca, Christopher, Hilary, Charles and Gregory and three great grandchildren; Averey, Tripp and Nikhil. She was predeceased by a daughter, Lisa Clark and her sister Elsie Lamas. Eric R. Steele A real life super-hero WATERBURY — Eric R. Steele, 30, passed away peacefully on Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. Eric was born on Nov. 23, 1983, in Bristol, a son of Christine Rutigliano and a grandson of Frank and Ann Rutigliano. In addition to his mother and grandparents, Eric is survived by his brother, Christopher Steele; his uncles, Jack Rutigliano, Hans Hartman and Thomas Fruin, and his aunt, Linda Fruin. He will also be greatly missed by his cousins, Erica, Adam, Matt, Noah and Tyler, as well as good friends Darcy and Tim and his dog Matty. Eric was a graduate of Crosby High School and previously worked at Walsh’s IGA. Eric was an avid collector of comic books, Legos, super-hero memorabilia and was a “Spider-man Enthusiast.” To those who knew and loved him, he was a real life super-hero! He loved his grandma’s cooking, especially her “peas and meatballs.” Eric’s family would like to thank Dr. Alvarez, his primary care physician, as well as all the doctors and nursing teams at Yale-New Haven and Smilow hospitals, Massachusetts General Hospital, Saint Mary’s Hospital, DaVita Dialysis and the VNA involved with providing outstanding care and support during Eric’s lifetime. May was born on January 31, 1916 in Waterbury a daughter of the late William Miller and Mary Anne (Conaty) Miller. She was retired from Waterbury Hospital where she worked as a Private Duty Nurse for many years. She was a 2nd Lt. in the Army during WWII. She enjoyed golfing, swimming at the Y, playing bridge and was an avid reader. She is survived by two daughters, Lucia Homick of Arlington, VA, Patricia Reichers of Naples, FL, a son, Thomas Homick of Waterbury, one sister, Lucy Miller, and one brother Edward Miller. She was predeceased by one sister, Lucy Dawid and one brother Edward Miller. Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Johanna DeMagistris Retired longtime seamstress PROSPECT – Johanna DeMagistris, 70, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014 at the Smilow Cancer Center. She was the wife of Luigi DeMagistris. Johanna was born in Munich, Germany on March 6, 1943 and was the daughter of the late Josef and Anna Quint. She worked as a seamstress for various companies throughout her life until her retirement. Besides her husband, Johanna is survived by four daughters, Angelika Dunn and her husband Kyle of Wolcott, Claudia Calcaterra and her husband John of Prospect, Monika DeMagistris of Waterbury and Iris Pelosi with her husband, also of Waterbury; one son, Alfonso DeMagistris and his wife Ellen of Prospect; two brothers, Eugene Quint of New Britain and Herman Quint of California. Johanna also leaves 10 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Dunedin, FL-Mary Brigida Vieira Gotshall formerly of Naugatuck passed away on February 10, 2014. Mary was born in Naugatuck on May 7, 1920 a daughter of the late Apolonia and Manual Pinho. Mary was raised and educated in Portugal and married Camilo Vieira in 1943. They had two children. Camilo preceded Mary in death in 1969. Mary remarried in 1975 to Ralph Gotshall. Mary was employed by Uniroyal and was very involved in the Naugatuck Portuguese Club and was one of the founders of the Ladies Axillary as well as one of its first President’s. She was politically active in both State and local politics in helping candidates promote themselves within the Portuguese community. She loved to cook for her family. She cherished and leaves behind her children, her son, Camilo Vieira and his wife Mary of Waterbury, and her daughter, Linda Young and her husband John of Snowmass, CO. She will also be missed by her loving grandchildren, Selena Casey and her husband Rich of Cheshire, Cristina Abramson and her husband Liam of Avon, Jeremy Young of McLean, VA and Jessie Young of Aspen, CO, as well as her great grandchildren, Cameron and Jotham Casey and Lior Abramson, and her many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the Community Room at The Inn on the Pond, 2010 Greenbriar Blvd, Clearwater, FL on Friday, February 28, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. A graveside memorial will be held in the Spring, in St. James Cemetery at the discretion of the family. Mrs. Noonan was born on January 8, 1917 in New Haven, a daughter of the late James Richardson and Julia (Barney) Richardson. She was pre deceased by a son, Daniel James Noonan. She is survived by one son, Gerald M. Noonan and his wife Ann, daughters Julia Noonan of NY and Elizabeth Molway of MA, and one sister, Frances Richardson Looney of CA. She will also be missed by six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Mrs. Noonan was an officer and active member of the Glendale Community Club, a member of the Naugatuck Women’s Club, and served for forty years as the organizer of the local blood drives for the American Red Cross. She will be remembered for her generous community spirit and her sense of humor. Services and burial are private. There are no calling hours. NAUGATUCK — Louis J. Roma Jr., 54, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at his home in Naugatuck. Mr. Roma was born on April 8, 1959, in Bridgeport, a son of Louis and Marie (Patenaude) Roma. Louis enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid bicyclist and enjoyed working on home improvement projects. Louis was a 1978 graduate of Andrew Warde High School, Fairfield. Louis is survived by Lenore Cortina, his soul mate and companion of over 30 years. He is also survived by his brother, Richard and his wife Bernice, and his two sisters, Maureen and Terri. He will also be missed by Philip and Carol Cortina, James and Cheryl Cortina and Tina and Gus Melchionno, as well as several nieces and nephews, including two special nephews, Marcus and Christopher Melchionno. He was predeceased by his sister, Patricia. The funeral service for Mr. Roma will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at 7 p.m. at the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 26 Waterbury Road, Rte. 69, Prospect. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 5 p.m. until the start of the service.

Naugatuck-Joyce A. Dandeneau, 79, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, March 2, 2014. She was the wife of Roger E. Dandeneau to whom she was married to for 54 years. Joyce was born on October 22, 1934. Born and raised in Winsted, daughter of the late Harold and Carrie Ransom. She was a graduate of Gilbert School in Winsted and also a graduate of Connecticut Institute of Hair Dressing in Hartford. For many years she owned Joyce’s Beauty Salon in Naugatuck and worked for several other salons though out her life where she enjoyed her cliental. Joyce was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family, playing cards and ceramics. She also loved dancing with her husband and won several dancing competitions throughout the state. Besides her husband Roger, she leaves behind three children, Mark Dandeneau and his wife Barbara of Naugatuck, Roger Dandeneau and his wife Kathleen of Wolcott and Yvonne Ober and her husband Bradd of Falls Village. She also leaves behind a brother Denten Ransom and his wife Pat Ransom of Meriden and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by a brother, Wayne Ransom and a sister Joan Dean. The family would like to thank VITAS for their help and support. The funeral will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church Street, Naugatuck. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery.
