Prospect – Lucille (Antonacci) Peterson, loving wife of Robert F. Peterson and mother of Joanna Peterson passed away Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Danbury Hospital. Lucille was born on June 16, 1939 to the late Domenic and Mary Antonacci. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s School of Nursing and Boston College. She was a nurse for over 30 years both in the operating room as well as the Bristol and Waterbury VNA. She was an accomplished artist and Suzuki piano teacher. Besides her husband and daughter, Lucille is also survived by her siblings Rosemary Bergin (wife of late Edward Bergin) of Waterbury, Donna Carroll and husband John of Watertown, and Dennis Antonacci and wife Lucinda of East Berlin as well as many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Church of the Epiphany, 1750 Huckins Road in Cheshire on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church. Middlebury- Ruth E. Donnelly, 94, passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late James P. Donnelly. Mrs. Donnelly was born on October 27, 1919 in Waterbury a daughter of the late John Pooler and Bertha (Voegtlin) Pooler. She was the owner of The Boot and Saddle Shop in Waterbury for many years before retiring. She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Markland of North Adams, MA, a sister, Marjorie Stoddard and her husband Henry of Branford, two nephews, Robert Lutkus of Prospect and Matthew Lutkus of ME, two nieces, Patricia Rinckel of Prospect and Janet Lutkus of NH as well as other nieces and nephews. Besides her husband James she was predeceased by a sister Jacqueline Lutkus. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at St. Anthony’s Church, 4 Union City Rd, Prospect at 9:00 a.m. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church. Waterbury-May (Miller) Homick, 98, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2014 at Beacon Brook Healthcare Center in Naugatuck. She was the wife of the late John Homick. May was born on January 31, 1916 in Waterbury a daughter of the late William Miller and Mary Anne (Conaty) Miller. She was retired from Waterbury Hospital where she worked as a Private Duty Nurse for many years. She was a 2nd Lt. in the Army during WWII. She enjoyed golfing, swimming at the Y, playing bridge and was an avid reader. She is survived by two daughters, Lucia Homick of Arlington, VA, Patricia Reichers of Naples, FL, a son, Thomas Homick of Waterbury, one sister, Lucy Miller, and one brother Edward Miller. She was predeceased by one sister, Lucy Dawid and one brother Edward Miller. Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Johanna DeMagistris Retired longtime seamstress PROSPECT – Johanna DeMagistris, 70, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014 at the Smilow Cancer Center. She was the wife of Luigi DeMagistris. Johanna was born in Munich, Germany on March 6, 1943 and was the daughter of the late Josef and Anna Quint. She worked as a seamstress for various companies throughout her life until her retirement. Besides her husband, Johanna is survived by four daughters, Angelika Dunn and her husband Kyle of Wolcott, Claudia Calcaterra and her husband John of Prospect, Monika DeMagistris of Waterbury and Iris Pelosi with her husband, also of Waterbury; one son, Alfonso DeMagistris and his wife Ellen of Prospect; two brothers, Eugene Quint of New Britain and Herman Quint of California. Johanna also leaves 10 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. A memorial service will be held on Friday, Feb. 21, at 9 a.m. at the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 26 Waterbury Road, Route 69, Prospect. There are no calling hours. Dunedin, FL-Mary Brigida Vieira Gotshall formerly of Naugatuck passed away on February 10, 2014. Mary was born in Naugatuck on May 7, 1920 a daughter of the late Apolonia and Manual Pinho. Mary was raised and educated in Portugal and married Camilo Vieira in 1943. They had two children. Camilo preceded Mary in death in 1969. Mary remarried in 1975 to Ralph Gotshall. Mary was employed by Uniroyal and was very involved in the Naugatuck Portuguese Club and was one of the founders of the Ladies Axillary as well as one of its first President’s. She was politically active in both State and local politics in helping candidates promote themselves within the Portuguese community. She loved to cook for her family. She cherished and leaves behind her children, her son, Camilo Vieira and his wife Mary of Waterbury, and her daughter, Linda Young and her husband John of Snowmass, CO. She will also be missed by her loving grandchildren, Selena Casey and her husband Rich of Cheshire, Cristina Abramson and her husband Liam of Avon, Jeremy Young of McLean, VA and Jessie Young of Aspen, CO, as well as her great grandchildren, Cameron and Jotham Casey and Lior Abramson, and her many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the Community Room at The Inn on the Pond, 2010 Greenbriar Blvd, Clearwater, FL on Friday, February 28, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. A graveside memorial will be held in the Spring, in St. James Cemetery at the discretion of the family. Naugatuck- Marie C. (Richardson) Noonan, 97, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 16, 2014. She was the wife of the late Francis M. Noonan. Mrs. Noonan was born on January 8, 1917 in New Haven, a daughter of the late James Richardson and Julia (Barney) Richardson. She was pre deceased by a son, Daniel James Noonan. She is survived by one son, Gerald M. Noonan and his wife Ann, daughters Julia Noonan of NY and Elizabeth Molway of MA, and one sister, Frances Richardson Looney of CA. She will also be missed by six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Mrs. Noonan was an officer and active member of the Glendale Community Club, a member of the Naugatuck Women’s Club, and served for forty years as the organizer of the local blood drives for the American Red Cross. She will be remembered for her generous community spirit and her sense of humor. Services and burial are private. There are no calling hours. NAUGATUCK — Louis J. Roma Jr., 54, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at his home in Naugatuck. Mr. Roma was born on April 8, 1959, in Bridgeport, a son of Louis and Marie (Patenaude) Roma. Louis enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid bicyclist and enjoyed working on home improvement projects. Louis was a 1978 graduate of Andrew Warde High School, Fairfield. Louis is survived by Lenore Cortina, his soul mate and companion of over 30 years. He is also survived by his brother, Richard and his wife Bernice, and his two sisters, Maureen and Terri. He will also be missed by Philip and Carol Cortina, James and Cheryl Cortina and Tina and Gus Melchionno, as well as several nieces and nephews, including two special nephews, Marcus and Christopher Melchionno. He was predeceased by his sister, Patricia. The funeral service for Mr. Roma will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at 7 p.m. at the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 26 Waterbury Road, Rte. 69, Prospect. Naugatuck-Joyce A. Dandeneau, 79, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, March 2, 2014. She was the wife of Roger E. Dandeneau to whom she was married to for 54 years. Joyce was born on October 22, 1934. Born and raised in Winsted, daughter of the late Harold and Carrie Ransom. She was a graduate of Gilbert School in Winsted and also a graduate of Connecticut Institute of Hair Dressing in Hartford. For many years she owned Joyce’s Beauty Salon in Naugatuck and worked for several other salons though out her life where she enjoyed her cliental. Joyce was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family, playing cards and ceramics. She also loved dancing with her husband and won several dancing competitions throughout the state. Besides her husband Roger, she leaves behind three children, Mark Dandeneau and his wife Barbara of Naugatuck, Roger Dandeneau and his wife Kathleen of Wolcott and Yvonne Ober and her husband Bradd of Falls Village. She also leaves behind a brother Denten Ransom and his wife Pat Ransom of Meriden and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by a brother, Wayne Ransom and a sister Joan Dean. The family would like to thank VITAS for their help and support. The funeral will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church Street, Naugatuck. NAUGATUCK — Elizabeth “Betsy” Rose Alanskas, 77, passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at Saint Mary’s Hospital with her family by her side. Betsy was born on May 17, 1936, a daughter of the late Terrence W. and Elizabeth (Fleck) Chism. She was predeceased by her brother, William Chism, and her sister, Wilma Leach. Through Betsy’s life, she worked and was a homemaker, but most of all, she was a devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and a friend to many. Through life’s struggles, she always tried to make the best of any situation. Children brought laughter and a smile to her face. Others received her caring hand. Betsy is survived by her two daughters, Petrice Alanskas of Cape May, N.J., and Diane MacDonald of Naugatuck; her son, Richard Alanskas, and her grandson, Angus MacDonald, both of Naugatuck. She will also be missed by her nephew, John Baird, who would like to acknowledge the care and love his Aunt Betsy had shown him and his Grandma Evelyn. Elizabeth Rose Alanskas, “A Rose of All Seasons”. As years pass by and one grows, one appreciates what one has done and meant to another. Sincere thanks and appreciation to all of her health care providers and ambulance services. George was born on September 3, 1925 in Waterbury a son of the late William and Helen Smith. He was retired from Conn’s Music Shop where he worked as a technician for many years. Besides his loving wife, Dorothy, he was survived by seven sons, Robert Smith and his wife June of Naugatuck, David Smith of Waterbury, Richard Smith and his wife Terry of Oxford, Paul Smith of Waterbury, Gerald Smith of Naugatuck, Jeffrey Smith of Waterbury, and Steven Smith of Naugatuck, one sister, Ann Rozycki of Naugatuck. He will also be missed by his six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, a niece Carol Grenier of Barkhamsted as well as several other nieces and nephews. CATHY E SMITH Loving Wife, Mother, and Grandmother Cathy E. (Sabia) Smith, 63, of Watertown, died March 16, 2014 at home surrounded by her loving family after a brief battle with cancer. She and her husband, Robert C. Smith, celebrated their 44th anniversary on February 28th. Cathy was born on July 9, 1950 in Waterbury, CT. She was the daughter of the late Louis and Victoria (Siwanowicz) Sabia. Cathy was a native of Naugatuck and graduated from St. Hedwig’s Grammar School and Naugatuck High School, class of 1968. She grew up in a tightknit family with her siblings and many cousins with which she maintained a close, loving relationship throughout her life. Of her many interests, she prized family above all else. She enjoyed cooking for family events and holidays. She loved house hunting, Cape Cod, traveling on long motor trips, and listening to Italian music while making her Sunday sauce. She cherished spending time with friends and family who enjoyed her great storytelling. She could imitate anyone and any accent, which added to the enjoyment of her stories. She lit up the room by her presence alone and laughter soon followed her arrival. She set a wonderful example for her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was a woman of strong faith and old-fashioned values and instilled the same in others. Cathy worked in the banking industry for many years, her last position being Property Manager for Bank of Boston. She continued work as President of the family-owned excavating business (R.C. Smith & Sons, Inc.) for over 20 years, which she ran with her husband, Bob. Besides her husband, she is survived by six children: Jeffrey Smith (Meaghan Oates) of Oakville, Tracey Crane of Watertown, Paula Fabiani (James) of McLean, VA, Victoria Smith of Oakville, Jeremy Smith of Watertown, and Jonathan Smith (Stacy Delembo) of Naugatuck; five grandchildren Cadie Charest, Cameron & Madeline Leo (their father, David Leo), Jack, and Joseph Smith. She is also survived by her sister, and best friend, Beverlee Sabia of Waterbury and brother, David Sabia (Karen Tomaszeski) of Naugatuck; a niece: Karen (Palladino) Grabherr (Brian); two nephews: David and Nicholas Sabia; and two grandnieces: Abby and Jackie Grabherr. She was predeceased by her sister, Marilyn. Cathy’s family would like to thank Dr. Allan Mayer and Dr. Zia Rahman, and the doctors, nurses, and entire staff of the 8th Floor Oncology Unit and Radiology Dept at St Francis Hospital in Hartford for their kindness and care. A special thank you for the wonderful care provided by her oncology nurse, Debbie Konopka, at the St. Francis Oncology Center. She went above and beyond with her kindness, support, and understanding. Though Cathy’s time with Debbie was brief, a beautiful friendship developed, which included the entire family. Our gratitude toward Debbie is beyond words. The funeral will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Mary Magdelan Church, 145 Buckingham Street, Oakville. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church. Harold W. Chapman Jr. Worked at Century Brass PROSPECT — Harold Walter Chapman Jr., 80, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2014. He was the husband of Joyce (Atwell) Chapman. Mr. Chapman was born on Aug. 8, 1933, a son of the late Harold and Loretta Chapman. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was employed at Century Brass for many years and retired from Superior Fork Lift in Wallingford. Mr. Chapman was a member of Prospect Congregational Church and a long-term member of Good Sam Camping Club. He enjoyed traveling the U.S. with his wife in their motor home, loved fishing, watching NASCAR, the UConn Huskies, and spending time with family. Besides his loving wife, Joyce, he is survived by six daughters, Karen Strumski and her husband, Jeffrey, Dorothy Soden, Corine Lindsey, Lisa, Tammy and Barbara; and one son, Harold Chapman. He is also survived by three sisters, Lorraine Roy, Edna Violette and her husband, Paul, and Margaret Smith. He was predeceased by his two brothers, James and Clifford, and two sisters, Shirley Feltnar and Joan Clement. He will also be missed by several nieces, nephews, grandchildren and one great-grandson. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at 10 a.m. at the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 26 Waterbury Road, Rte. 69, Prospect. The burial service will be in Prospect Cemetery. Naugatuck-Patrick Valletta, 92, passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at St. Mary’s Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Ann (Martin) Valletta. Mr. Valletta was born on March 30, 1921 in Waterbury a son of the late Donato Valletta and Josephine (Gugliotti) Valletta. He was retired from the US Postal Service where he worked as a Postal worker for many years and also retired from the CT Army National Guard. He was a WWII Veteran having served in the Navy. Patrick enjoyed drawing cartoons, and was an avid bowler, Gardner and loved to cook. He is survived by three daughters, Diana Sullivan and her husband Tom of Naugatuck, Donna Valletta of Waterbury and, Patricia Stankevicius of Wolcott, two sons, Larry Valletta and his wife Joan of Naugatuck and Daniel Valletta of Wisconsin. He will also be missed by two grandchildren, Erin Sullivan and Julia Gaouett and two great grandchildren, Cameron and Hanna as well as several nieces and nephews. Naugatuck-Kathleen Broadrick, 67, passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Steven Broadrick . Kathleen was born on December 7, 1946 in Waterbury a daughter of the late Edward Johnson and Catherine (Kelly) Johnson. She was the owner of Bea’s Flower Shop in Naugatuck for many years before retiring. She was a graduate of Naugatuck High School, and of St. Mary’s School of Nursing and worked as an X-Ray Tech at the beginning of her career. She was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, the Naugatuck Elks Lodge #967 and was Elk of the year in 2008, she was also a member and a Past President of the Naugatuck Emblem Club #160. She was a member of the Heritage Quilters of Wallingford, the Lavender Ladies Quilt Group in Wallingford and the Material Girls Quilt Group in Naugatuck She is survived by two sons, Brian Broadrick and his fiancé Jacqueline Branco of Naugatuck , David Broadrick and his wife Melissa of Waterbury, one daughter, Tracey Brown and her husband Robert of Wallingford, four brothers, Thomas Johnson, Scott Johnson, Edward (E.J.) Johnson, and Mark Johnson, two sisters, Leanne McHugh and Mary (Mia) Coon. She will also be missed by her six grandchildren, Robert Turrell, Kevin Turrell, Erich Broadrick, Katie Brown, Mark Brown and Rebecca Broadrick. Naugatuck-William R. Allen, Sr. 67, passed away suddenly in his home on March 29, 2014. Known and loved as Bill or Pop. Bill was born on December 9, 1946 in Bridgeport, the son of the late Horace and Lillian Allen. He is predeceased by a brother Harold Allen. Bill recently retired from Stop & Shop but was probably best known for his lifelong work as a painter. Many homes were forever changed thanks to Bill’s special touches. He will be sadly missed by his daughters, Theresa Perri, Betty Szilvasy, Barbara Pecor and her husband Michael, and Billie Joe Dunford. His sons, William R. Allen Jr., and Brian Allen. His sisters, Marlene Ferko and Cheryl Dickinson, brothers, Ronald Allen and James Allen. Pop will also be missed by his seventeen grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Pop loved spoiling his many “grand-puppies and kitties” who always enjoyed his visits. A gathering of the family and friends will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave, Naugatuck. The family would appreciate those who wish, to share stories in honor of Bill. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Naugatuck-Russell J. Langhans 66 passed away on Thursday April 3, 2014 at St. Mary’s Hospital Vitas Unit surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Linda ( Lanouette) Langhans. Russell was born in Bridgeport on May 20, 1947 and is the son of Florence Langhans of Largo, Fl. and the late Joseph J. Langhans. Russell worked for Crowley Chrysler as a sales manager until his retirement. He was a member of the Fraternal Order Of Eagles #640, past president and past state president. Russell also coached for many years at Union City little League. Besides his wife and mother Russell leaves one daughter Karri and Her husband Rickie Gibson of Naugatuck, two sons Russell J. Langhans Jr. and Jason and his wife Michelle Langhans all of Naugatuck. A brother Joseph and his wife Patricia Langhans of Seminole, Fl. He also leaves 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandsons and several nieces and nephews. Russell was predeceased by his first wife Ruthellen after many loving years. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday April 7, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Vincent Ferrer Church, 1006 New Haven Rd, Naugatuck. All are asked to meet directly at church in the morning. Burial will be held in Mountain Grove Cemetery in Bridgeport. Calling hours will be held on Sunday afternoon from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home 26 Waterbury Rd. Robert Harold Belden, passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at Waterbury Hospital. Bob was born in Hartford on Sept. 25, 1932 to Harold (Poppy) and Helen Cannon Belden. He graduated from St. John’s Preparatory School in Danvers, MA in 1952. He was a graduate of Providence College in 1956. He was a proud American who served in the United States Army and Korean War Conflict. Bob married Marilyn Randall in 1958 and they raised five children. He was a long time employee of Dorr Oliver in Stamford as a Commercial Collections Manager until his retirement in 1991. Before retiring, he looked forward to summer family vacations in New England and spending time at the cottage in Niantic. Bob enjoyed his retirement of 22 years in many ways. He was an avid wood worker and Boston Red Sox fan. He also enjoyed deep sea fishing, fireworks in Naugatuck, watching his kids Thursday night softball games, war movies and cowboy movies. His real passion was puttering in the yard, gardening, and just being outdoors. He was predeceased by his sister Betty. He leaves behind his five children and their spouses; Robert Belden and Irene; Jim Belden and Margaret; Mike Belden and Nancy; Lisa Ewing and Steve; and Tom Belden and Jeanne. He also leaves behind 9 grandchildren; Greg, Jake, Jamie, Timothy, Summer, Brittany, Chase, Sarah and Mark. In addition he leaves behind many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at 11:00 am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church Street, Naugatuck, followed by burial with full military honors at the State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown. Arrangements are by Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave, Naugatuck. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday morning from 9:00 -10:30 a.m. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, 239 Rubber Avenue, Naugatuck, CT, 06770.
