Ann Marie Rathburn Spadola, 81, passed away peacefully in Scottsdale, AZ on April 3, 2015, ending a truly memorable and rewarding life of a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. Born July 3, 1933 in Waterbury CT, Ann graduated from Naugatuck High School, and LaSalle Junior College in MA. She married Donald Spadola of Naugatuck on September 5, 1955, following the great Naugatuck flood of 1955. Ann moved with Donald to Pennsylvania where they lived and began their family. They returned to CT and resided in Norwalk from 1965 to 1993. Upon retirement they moved to Chandler Arizona to be near their children and grandchildren. Ann chaired many fundraisers and social events in each community she lived in. She loved to travel, cook, have parties, and be generous to her family and friends. Ann is preceded in death by her parents Albert and Anna Rathburn, Donald Spadola her husband of 40 year, her in-laws Joseph and Loretta Spadola and her sister-in-law, Diane Spadola Morello. Ann is survived by 3 children and 6 grandchildren – Donald J. Spadola (Donna, Joseph, LeighAnn) of Las Vegas, NV, Thomas J. Spadola (Rebecca, Edmund, and Evan) of Tampa, FL, Beth Hammon (Tod, Bennett, Grayson) of Phoenix,AZ, and one sister; Sister Eleanor Rathburn of the Sisters of Mercy, along with three nieces. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 11:00am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church Street, Naugatuck. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. SOUTHBURY Roslyn Marie (Blynder) Lerman passed away at her home after a long illness on May 1, 2015, surrounded by family. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Harold L. Lerman. Mrs. Lerman was born August 18, 1930, in New Haven, CT, daughter of the late Louis and Lillian Blynder. She graduated from Hillhouse High School in New Haven and after raising her family, she enrolled at Southern Connecticut State University receiving her Bachelors degree in 1979 followed by her Masters degree. Her family was proud of her accomplishments as a student and she routinely received high grades. After completing her education, Roz worked at the Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center and the Woodbury School system as a vocational counselor. She treasured her relationships with her coworkers and students. Roz loved spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed playing golf and had been a member of Crestbrook Country Club and a longtime member of the Country Club of Waterbury. She also enjoyed playing bridge and caring for and watching various sporting and theatrical events involving her five grandchildren, all of whom she absolutely adored. Roz is survived by her loving sons, Lewis Lerman (Coleen) of Fairfield and Barry Lerman (Maura) of Pinehurst, NC, her five grandchildren, who will always cherish their memories of Grammy, Brian (Jennifer), Adam (Emily), Tara, Emily and Michael, four great grandchildren, Sophia, Jackson, Alexander and Eloise. Her sister, Myrna Winters, her brother-in-law, David (Ruth) Lerman, and her sister-in- law, Gertrude Lerman all survive her as do many cherished relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her daughter-in-law Annette. Beacon Falls, CT Harold Edward King, 98, the husband of the late Matilda (Armonat) King for 59 years, passed away peacefully on Thursday April 16, 2015 at Wedgewood Assisted Living Facility in Bartow, Florida. Mr. King had previously lived in Beacon Falls, CT for 68 years. Mr. King was born February 18, 1917 in Jamaica Plain, MA a son of the late Philip and Martha King, who had lived in Bauline, Newfoundland, Canada. Mr. King retired from the footwear division of Uniroyal, Inc., where he had worked for 29 years. He enjoyed attending Pinebrook Assembly of God Church in Union City and the Beacon Falls Congregational Church, as well as the Waterbury Full Gospel Businessmen. He was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran, who served as a communications chief with the 17th field artillery, second battalion from 1941-1945. He saw action in North Africa, Italy, France and Germany. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Good Conduct Medal among others. Mr. King is survived by his son, Philip King and his wife Sherron of Lakeland, FL, his daughter, Glenda Young and her husband Jeffrey of Gales Ferry, CT, his grandchildren, Cyndi Cook and her husband Bill and Kelly King of Florida, and Jonathan Young of Massachusetts, 4 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews in Connecticut, Newfoundland and British Columbia. Mr. King was predeceased by his wife Matilda Armonat King, who had lived in Beacon Falls, his brother Richard King, who had lived in Naugatuck, his brother Donald King, his sisters Margaret Patey and Bertha LeGrow, who had all lived in Newfoundland, Canada. Joanne was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. She loved to travel, especially to Charlestown, RI. Joanne enjoyed entertaining and always loved planning a party with her husband Frank. Joanne was an advocate for mentally and physically handicapped individuals, whom she worked with through the Department of Mental Health and Retardation. In addition to her husband Frank, Joanne is survived by her daughter Maureen Greene and her husband Len Greene, her son Brian Simpson, her son Kenneth Simpson and his spouse Ken Adams, her son Sean Simpson and his wife Heather Simpson, her grandchildren, Alan Lee, Jr., and Kyle Patrick Simpson, her great granddaughter, Callie Lee, her sister, Mary Rodman and her husband Charles Rodman, her sister and brother in law, Marie and John Simpson, her sister in law, Judy Flaherty, her sister and brother in law, Shirley and Tony Bridge and many nieces and nephews. Frances was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and mother-in-law, who enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed singing, dancing and horseback riding. Rosemary is survived by her sons, Vincent Gruszkiewicz, Bernard Gruszkiewicz and Kenneth Gruszkiewicz, her daughter, Clara Ann Gruszkiewicz, her sister, Ann Davis, her brother Andrew Sytnik, her 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Paul Barto Kisseberth, age 82, passed away on Friday, May 8, 2015 at his home in Beacon Falls, CT with loving family by his side. Paul is survived by his devoted wife and soul mate of 60 years, Ann Grinton Kisseberth. Paul was born on July 5, 1932, the only child of Roscoe Paul Kisseberth and Mary Margaret Barto Kisseberth and was raised in McCutchenville, OH. The oldest of thirteen cousins, Paul was fondly known by many as “Kissy” and to his eight grandchildren as “Grandpa”. Kissy and Ann met at Ohio Wesleyan University, where he was recruited to play baseball and basketball, and was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity and OWU’s Air Force ROTC unit. He majored in Physical Education. They married following graduation in 1954, and he served in the U.S. Air Force in Enid, Oklahoma. Paul began his 40 year career in publishing with McGraw-Hill Publishing Company in Detroit, MI with Fleet Owner Magazine. He was transferred to Chicago, where he eventually became regional sales manager, while living in Downers Grove, IL. In 1976, he transferred to New York City as National Sales Manager and later became Publisher of Fleet Owner Magazine. Additionally, he served as a Vice President of McGraw-Hill and as Associate Publisher of Aviation Week and Space Technology Magazine. He continued with Fleet Owner when it sold to Intertect Publishing in White Plains, NY and retired in December 1996. Kissy and Ann lived in Stamford, CT for 33 years, where he was an active member of his church, having also served on the Board of Trustees of the church. Kissy will be remembered as someone who was genuinely interested in everyone he met. He treated everyone fairly and with respect. He always gave sound advice. He loved life, he loved a gathering, and he was always the life of the party. He loved music, the louder the better, and dancing. Above all, Kissy cherished his family, friends, colleagues and customers. In addition to his wife Ann of Beacon Falls, CT, Paul is survived by his daughter, Mary Kisseberth Bedson and her husband Scott and their children, Laura and Robert of Fairfield, CT, his daughter Katharine Barto Kisseberth of Trumbull, CT, his son Michael Paul Kisseberth and his wife Coral and their children Jack, Camille and Danielle of Tiburon, CA, his son John Mills Kisseberth and his wife Judie and their children Hailey, William and Jacob of Narragansett, RI. Naugatuck, CT Beverly Ann (Baummer) Kamen, of Naugatuck, passed away peacefully at her home, on Sunday, May 17, 2015, surrounded by family and friends, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was the widow of Richard H. Kamen, who passed away in 1995. Beverly was born on March 13, 1945, to the late Edward and Gertrude (Krampetz) Baummer and resided in Naugatuck her entire life. Having attended Naugatuck schools, she graduated from high school in 1963 as valedictorian of her class. Also a graduate of Quinnipiac University, she held many positions, including those of legal secretary to several attorneys. Bev also enjoyed her jobs at Nelson’s Pharmacy and Beacon Brook Health Center, both in Naugatuck, where she greeted old friends and made many new ones. She loved her family, her friends, the New York Yankees, Country and Western Music, and going to concerts. She found comfort in attending both Immanuel Lutheran and St. Vincent Ferrer Churches in Naugatuck. The pets she had during her life, JoJo, Benny, Bandaid, and Mittens had captured her heart with love. Beverly is survived by her son, David Kamen, of Naugatuck, with whom she lived, and who was her devoted caregiver during her lengthy illness, and his girlfriend, Julie Varga, of Yonkers, New York. She is also survived by her beloved daughter, Jill Morgan, and her husband, Keith, of Rockford, Tennessee, one granddaughter, Brianna Salvati, of Rockford, Tennessee, her sister, Gail Martin, and her husband, Charles, of Cheshire, and her brother-in-law, Bruce Kamen, and his wife, Sandra, of Prospect, several nieces and nephews, cousins, and very dear friends, including her longtime caring and loving friend, Chris Herrity. Her life will be celebrated with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Vincent Ferrer Church, 1006 New Haven Road, Naugatuck, on Friday, May 22, 2015 at 10:00am. Cheshire – William G. Madden, 96, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at Highland Health Care Center in Cheshire. He was the husband of the late Phyllis Madden. William was born on November 22, 1918, in Naugatuck, a son of the late William and Josephine (Moran) Madden. He was a longtime Naugatuck resident and a 1936 graduate of Naugatuck High School. For many years, he was the co-owner and president of Connecticut Manufacturing Company in Waterbury, Ct. Mr. Madden served in the U.S. Maritime Service during WW II, as a second engineer. William is survived by his sister Ellen Flaherty and his brother Joseph Madden and his wife Ann Madden all from Cheshire. He will also be missed by his sister-in-law, Barbra Madden, and by his many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Edward and George Madden. She was a talented and artistic teacher of ceramics and owned and operated G&G Ceramics Studio for over 20 years. Pauline enjoyed playing cards and loved to travel the US with her late husband Jerry visiting casinos along the way. MERIDEN – Marjorie (Havican) Minervini, of 380 Crown Street, Meriden, passed away quietly and gently on June 17, five months after her husband, Robert Minervini. Marge was born in Waterbury, May 15, 1937, daughter of the late George and Genevieve Havican. She graduated from Waterbury Catholic High and Western Connecticut University, teaching briefly in Waterbury. She spent most of her working life writing. She was editor of the American Kennel Club Magazine in N.Y.C., then over 20 years as editor of the Scope Magazine for CL&P employees. Marge and Bob enjoyed traveling and enjoyed visits with friends in the sister cities of Wallingford, Connecticut and Wallingford, England. She is survived by two brothers and their wives, George and Peggy Havican, Alan and Janet Havican; and sister, Linda Kupstis and husband, Richard. She also has several nieces and nephews. Marge was a resident of Curtis Home and the family greatly appreciates the excellent care she was given there. Born in Wauregan, CT, on March 4, 1928, he was the son of the late Henry and Dora (Gibeault) Pratte and had lived in Naugatuck for the past 58 years. Lou was a proud World War II United States Marine Corps veteran having served in China. Lou retired from Sikorsky Aircraft and he enjoyed camping at Brialee in Ashford, CT, his trips to the casino and UCONN Women’s Basketball. Lou was a member of the V.F.W. Crusader Post 1946, Catholic War Veterans Gold Star Post, American Legion Post 17, the Sikorsky Friendship Club and he was also a life member of the B.P.O. Elks # 967. Lou is survived by three daughters, Pattie Hein and her husband, Bob, of Naugatuck, Lori Johnson of Massachusetts and Susie Pratte of Naugatuck; a sister, Veronica Mathurin of Brooklyn, CT; seven grandchildren, Jason DaSilva, Laura DaSilva, Lisa Gentile, Michael Jenness, Rachael Jenness, Wesley Johnson and Alisa Johnson; eleven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Lou was predeceased by his daughter, Sandy Pratte, his brother, Adrian Pratte and his two sisters, Lucille Lafreniere and Pauline Weaver. The family would like to extend sincere thanks to everyone who cared for Lou, especially the staff of Athena Home Hospice. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church Street, Naugatuck. Burial with military honors will follow in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. Calling hours are Tuesday, June 23, 2015 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue. Members of the Naugatuck Veterans Council will assemble at the funeral home, Tuesday at 7:15 pm. Members of the Naugatuck Elks Lodge will perform a ritual at the funeral home, Tuesday at 7:45 pm.
